Discover the Joy of Homestead Life
Our journey has been anything but ordinary. It began with two city kids, Bret and Susanne, both guided by adventurous spirits. When they started a family, their focus became clear: giving their three children the best possible foundation, rooted in the belief that food is medicine.
That intention led them into the homestead lifestyle, full of twists and turns. Along the way, Bret and Susanne taught over 4,000 college students hands-on outdoor skills, deepening their love for passing along practical knowledge.
Our Story
Shortly after opening their slice of heaven to veterans, first responders, and others seeking healing, a special bull calf named Kevin was born—confirming the path they had been led toward all along.
What began for our family has grown into a place of connection, old-world skills, nourishment from the land, and healing through the earth and the animals entrusted to us.

A dozen eggs. Our hens live a leisurely life. With a coop, laying house, and fenced yard to keep them safe from roaming predators at night and warm through freezing cold days, the hens are able to spend their daylight hours roaming pastures.
Our hens are fed fodder (barley we sprout on site) and grains supplemented by their time foraging for bugs, grasses, and roots. Our chickens, their eggs, and their feed are free of hormones and antibiotics, making for farm fresh natural eggs. You can taste the difference in quality!
We have several breeds: our prized heritage Barred Plymouth Rocks, red stars, blue laced Wyandottes, Easter Eggers, brahmas, and cochins (the huggable breed). They are handled daily by our three children and if you visit, you will have the opportunity to hug a chicken.
Worm castings are nature’s most complete soil amendment, created as worms break down organic matter into a rich, living compost. Biology in a box! Often called “black gold,” castings are packed with beneficial microbes, enzymes, and nutrients that plants can easily absorb. Unlike synthetic fertilizers that sterilize soils, worm castings are all-natural, gentle, and safe—there’s no risk of burning plants or harming the soil. They work by improving soil structure, increasing water retention, and feeding the living ecosystem beneath the surface.
Perfect for flowers, fruits, vegetables, and even houseplants, worm castings support stronger roots, healthier growth, and more vibrant blooms and harvests. They help plants build natural resistance to stress, pests, and disease while improving long-term soil health. Free from chemicals and fillers, worm castings nourish both plants and the land, restoring soil the way nature intended—slowly, sustainably, and full of life. The ½ gallon box is perfect for covering 3+ square feet of soil at a ¼ inch thick or placing ¼ cup of the soil amendment into 32 house plants.
